Cache Valley Center for the Arts
Cache Valley Center for the Arts (or CacheArts for short), is the Local Arts Agency for Cache County and Logan City. The art facilities include the Ellen Eccles Theatre, Bullen Center and Thatcher-Young Mansion. These places all provide a venue for performances, a home for arts education, a marketplace for artists and a gathering place for the community. The Center is a major economic driver, with $1,800,000 in ticket sales and class registrations each year.
The Ellen Eccles Theatre
The Ellen Eccles Theatre was built in 1923 and was restored to its original glory in 1991. It is home to the largest full-production stage north of Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a European style theatre and seats up to 1,100 patrons. Many local performing companies use the Theatre included the Utah Festival Opera, Cache Regional Theatre, and Cache Valley Civic Ballet. It has a very ornate grand foyer and is very spacious. It has programs for everybody from the Fiddler on the Roof, Jekyll and Hyde, and the Scarlet Pimpernel.
Thatcher-Young Mansion
The Thatcher-Young Mansion was built in 1878 by G.W. Thatcher. The designer of the home is believed to be the cousin of Thatcher’s Wife who also designed the LDS tabernacles in Brigham City and Coalville, Utah, and in Paris, Idaho. The house has now been carefully restored and can now be used by the public.
Entrepreneurship
The Cache Valley Center for the Arts also has an art incubator. It also provides financial and mentorship to aspiring creative entrepreneurs. It has the Artists’ Gallery where 35 local artists pool their resources and time and staff a beautiful gallery on Main Street where they can sell their work. The Center also has the Logan Youth Shakespeare which provided a program for youth ages nine to nineteen to memorize and perform Shakespeare plays. There are no auditions and every student who registers can perform. The Cache Arts center provides bookkeeping, facility and back office support for the Logan Youth Shakespeare.
The Ellen Eccles Theatre, Bullen Center, and Thatcher-Young Mansion are all available for rent for classes, Meet and Greets, conferences, receptions, weddings, luncheons, Dances, and more. The Center also provides jobs and volunteer opportunities.
I think what the Center does is really good. They are able to bring the arts and humanities to the residents of Logan and the surrounding communities. They also teach young kids the arts and help those who are wanting to become a professional artist and provide for their families doing something that they love.
